Branched chain amino acids are used in emergency rooms across America to reduce the associated trauma caused by bullet wounds, severe burns and vehicle impact in humans. Severe liver and muscular protein degradation during these life-threatening conditions are well-documented.
In developing branched chains for human administration, research hinted that if extra branch chains could be supplied orally and readily absorbed into the bloodstream, they would retard lactic acid build up -- another associated problem during exercise. Further studies with an oral paste, developed an understanding of the absorption rates in horses; its effect on lowering their heart rates during training and its ability not only to prevent lactic acid build up, but to assist in recovery from strenuous exertion.
