Description
Clemastine is a long-lasting over-the-counter antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of allergies in pets. It is a selective histamine H1 antagonist. It binds to the histamine H1 receptor, and blocks histamine, allowing for temporary relief of allergy symptoms.
Clemastine is available in a non-prescription (OTC) form at 1.34mg. Clemastine is available in a prescription form at 2.68mg.
Clemastine is used for the symptomatic relief of allergy symptoms.
The usual dose in dogs is ½ or 1 tablet every 12 hours. The usual dose in cats is ½ tablet every 12 hours.
The side effects of clemastine in dogs can include sedation, paradoxical hyperactivity, and dryness of the mouth. In cats, diarrhea is most common.
