Sotalol is used for treating certain types of irregular heartbeat (ventricular arrhythmias). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your Veterinarian. Sotalol is a beta-blocker. It works by helping the heart beat regularly for a longer period of time.
The following side effects have been reported and usually occur in older pets: slow heart rate, drowsiness, worsening heart failure, low blood pressure, and difficulty breathing bronchospasm, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your veterinarian if your pet is very tired, has trouble exercising, begins wheezing, develops shortness of breath or a cough, or if your pet's attitude or behavior changes.
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Be sure to tell your veterinarian about any other medications or supplements you are giving your pet. It's not uncommon for your veterinarian to prescribe two different medications, which may cause a drug interaction to occur. If this happens, your veterinarian may change the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Sotalol may interact with the following medicines: sympathomimetics, anesthetic agents, phenothiazines, furosemide, hydralazine, insulin, and calcium channel blockers. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
