How to Order Prescriptions

Description

Lisinopril is a medication prescribed for cats and dogs to manage conditions like heart failure, high blood pressure, certain types of heart valve disease, and kidney disease. High blood pressure can lead to serious health issues such as heart disease by placing excessive strain on artery walls. Lisinopril helps by widening blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure, easing stress on the heart and arteries, and supporting overall cardiovascular health for pets.

Active Ingredient

Lisinopril

Administration and Dosage

Administer this medication precisely as instructed by your veterinarian. If you have any questions about the directions, ask your pharmacist or veterinarian for clarification. Lisinopril can be given with or without food. Avoid abruptly discontinuing lisinopril. Keep it stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat, and out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage amounts provided below are recommendations only. Always adhere to the dosage prescribed by your veterinarian.

Cautions

Do not cease administering this medication without approval from your veterinarian, as a missed dose can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.

Potential Side Effects

For dogs and cats, discontinue lisinopril and seek emergency veterinary medical attention if serious side effects such as allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, hives) occur. While rare, side effects may include loss of appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea. Lisinopril may cause low blood pressure or kidney dysfunction, which may be indicated by increased thirst or changes in urination. Notify your veterinarian about any side effects that appear unusual or troubling to the animal.

Precautions
Consult your veterinarian prior to use in animals. Avoid use in animals with known allergies to lisinopril or other ACE inhibitors. Use caution when administering to animals with liver disease. Avoid use in pregnant animals. Lisinopril may be used in nursing animals, but caution is advised in animals with very low blood sodium levels.

This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, veterinarians commonly prescribe such medications for use in dogs and cats.
